INDIFFERENCE (무관심)

 

 

 

If you stay in a foreign country for a long time, you may miss deadly any news from the mother land.
Fortunately, we have a TV channel, KBS World in which we, suffering from the nostalgia for the home land, would find solace. Even the native people envy us who can watch those Korean TV shows in a foreign country so far away.

 

Vancouver Winter Olympic in last February, and the news on figure skating competition of Kim Yuna.
KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) and MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Center) could not show us even a cut of her competition because of the exclusive broadcasting of SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System).
So we could not watch her play on the news of KBS World because it was blanked with a 'Blue screen'.
I thought it might show it by chance so I kept my eyes on it. Unfortunately, even a cut was not shown without a mistake.
"XX, KBS. Why did it fail?"
In a sense of loss, I was only blaming it.
 
But something was popped up in my brain like 'the flash of an electric bulb'.
"Internet !!"
I thought that moving pictures in the internet would work so I went down to the office. I stayed up all night trying to watch a cut of her play.
However, SBS did not only disable all the IP's of foreign countries through which nobody could watch any Vancouver Winter Olympic games but also closed all the moving pictures by thorough searching the ones even in private...

On top of that, the notice saying 'the copyright is reserved by SBS so it is illegal to watch it without permission' for caution...
For 'downloading the software to pay for it', the internet environment making me to try three times, four times but yet not probable...
After all, I had given up all my attempts with absent eyes.
Thus I comforted myself with her picture smiling brightly with the gold medal on my PC's wall paper after the Vancouver Winter Olympic game was over.
Still I have no idea how she competed and played.

 

The number of Korean countrymen is 7.0 millions who live in foreign countries.
SBS had opened a pawn shop holding the seven millions of nostalgia as hostages.
'SBS, may be a big company with much money. However, you are below the base.'
'Holding their nostalgia as hostages is not different from the case of a kidnapper holding a kid for ransom.'
From that time on, I've never watched SBS.
Rather, I sentenced SBS to 'Indifference' by erasing it in my memory.

 

In the course of time, I came back to Korea and heard that SBS would broadcast 'World cup' exclusively.
I don't know how many people were not watching the World cup games and kept the channels of KBS or MBC at that time.
However, I was very pleased to hear shouting 'Waah!!' outside guessing 'our team had a goal'.
I was also depressed to hear shouting like sigh outside guessing 'the other team had a goal'...

 

Yesterday, we had a party welcoming my cousin's couple coming back from Azerbaijan for a while.
The sisters of my mom and the little brothers' couples were getting together.
In a cool night of autumn, we had talks on the soap operas.
Starting with 'Baker King, Kim Takgoo', a lot of the drama titles were pouring out.
But one of my mom's sisters spoke a title I hadn't known so I asked about it.
It was the one of SBS.
 

Therefore, I told them my stories of 'Vancouver Winter Olympic games' and 'World cup'.
They were nodding but saying in look, 'He was too serious? Why he had not watched the World cup games...'
My little brother sitting the other side was giggling, "Big bro, it is abnormal whatever reasons you have. You must have watched in a hiding place?"
But I could read his face that he understood my words to some extent.
Anyway, SBS is forgotten from me and I don't have interest in it at all.
Whatever may go with the other people, I, one people of the world, am not interested in it at all.
 
'Broadcasting', it is regardless of my will that the programs are being casted.
So it is my will that I will not take any program coming from the 'below-the-base' even though they may be said to be excellent.
As my firm will to the one who forgot the 'Basic Attitude' to 'Public Prosperity' but is crazy over 'Money Making', my 'Indifference' shall keep going on.
I know that it shall not be seen though.

[17AUG16] As I rearrange my BLOG, I declare that I have NOT watched that SBS channel even once since then.

 

 

해외에 장기 체류해 보신 분은 아시겠지만, 고국 소식이 많이 그립습니다.

고국의 향수를 그나마 달래주는 것은 KBS World라는 채널이 있는데, 그 멀리 타국땅에 한국 방송이 나오는 것을 그 지역 사람들도 부러워합니다.

 

지난 2월 벤쿠버 동계 올림픽, 그리고 김연아 선수의 피겨 스케이팅 소식.

물론 SBS의 독점방송으로 KBS 및 MBC는 김연아 선수의 피겨 스케이팅 한 컷도 방송할 수 없었지요.

그래서, KBS World로 방송되는 뉴스 시간에 김연아 선수의 경기 장면이 '파란 스크린'으로 덮여져서 한 컷도 볼 수 없었습니다.

혹시 실수로 보여지지 않을까 싶어, 눈이 빠지게 들여다 보고 있었지만, 아쉽게도 한 컷도 실수하지 않고 보여주지 않더군요.

"XX같은 KBS, 어쩌다 방송을 못하게 됐지?"

아쉬운 마음에 애꿎은 방송사 탓만하였습니다.

 

그러다가, 머리 속에 '뿅'하고 '전구에 불켜지듯이' 아이디어 하나가 스쳐갔습니다.

"인터넷!!"

인터넷 동영상으로 보면 되겠다 싶어, 그 날밤 사무실로 내려가 김연아 선수의 경기 한 컷이라도 보려고 밤을 하얗게 샜습니다.

그러나, SBS는 해외로 나가는 모든 벤쿠버 동계올림픽 동영상을 볼 수 없도록 해놓았을 뿐만아니라 누군가 몰래 올려 놓은 동영상도 싸그리 색출하여 모조리 닫아 놓았다는 것...

거기에다가 'SBS가 저작권을 갖고 있으니 돈 안내고 보려는 넘들은 불법이다'라는 뜻의 경고문...

'돈 내는 소프트웨어' 다운로드,  세번 네번 시도했지만 너무 열악한 인터넷 환경...

결국, 그날 새벽, 쾡한 눈으로 모든 걸 포기하고 말았죠.

벤쿠버 동계올림픽이 끝나고 '김연아 선수가 메달을 들고 활짝 웃는 모습'을 제 컴의 바탕화면에 두고 그나마 아쉬움을 달래었습니다.

저는 김연아 선수가 어떻게 경기했는지 아직도 모릅니다.

 

해외에 체류하는 우리나라 동포가 약 700만이라고 합니다.

SBS는 이들 해외에서 고국을 그리워하는 700만의 '향수'를 볼모로 잡고 신나는 장사판을 벌려 놓았었습니다.

'SBS, 큰 돈 벌어 큰 방송국되어라. 그러나, 너희는 기본이 안된 방송국이다.'

'고국에 대한 향수를 볼모로 잡는다는 것은 애들을 납치해서 돈을 요구하는 유괴범과 다를 것이 없다.'

그 이후로 저는 SBS를 보지 않았습니다.

아니, 저의 기억속에서 지워버리고 '무관심'이란 언도를 SBS에게 내렸습니다.

 

얼마 후, 저는 한국에 돌아왔고 그리고 얼마 후 SBS가 '월드컵'을 독점 중계를 한다는 소릴 들었습니다.

모르겠습니다. 이 대한민국에 월드컵 중계를 안보고 그 시간에 KBS나 MBC 채널을 보았던 사람이 몇 사람이 있었는지 말입니다.

그러면서도 창 밖에서 들리는 '와아!!'하는 함성이 들려올 때 마다 '뭔가 골을 넣은 모양이구나' 싶어 내심 기뻐 어쩔 줄을 몰랐었습니다.

그러다가 아쉬운 함성이 들리면 '뭔가 골을 먹은 거 아닌가' 싶어 속도 상했고요...

 

어제 아제르바이젠에서 잠시 귀국한 사촌 동생 부부 환영 저녁 식사가 있었습니다.

모처럼 작은 이모, 막내 이모 그리고 동생 부부 등이 모이는 가족 파티였습니다.

스산한 가을 저녁, 둘러 모여 최근 방영된 연속극을 주제로 얘기의 꽃을 피웠습니다.

'제빵왕 김탁구'를 필두로 여러가지 연속극 제목들이 쏟아져 나왔습니다.

그런데, 작은 이모께서 알지 못하는 드라마 제목을 말씀하시는 것이었습니다.

그게 뭔가 여쭈어 보았더니, SBS에서 방영하는 것이랍니다.

 

그래서, 저의 '벤쿠버 동계 올림픽' 및 '월드컵' 이야기를 해드렸습니다.

모두들 고개를 끄덕이면서도 '저 녀석 좀 심한거 아니야? 아무리 그렇다고 해도 월드컵도 안보다니 말이야...'하는 표정이었습니다.

맞은 편에 있던 동생은 "형, 아무리 그래도 월드컵을 안 본 건 좀 심하다. 혼자 어디 숨어서 본 거 아니야?" 하면서 키득키득 웃었습니다.

하지만, 동생은 제가 이해가 갈 듯 안 갈 듯하면서도 뭔가 이해 되지는 않았나 싶습니다.

좌우지간, SBS는 저에게 잊혀졌고, 그래서 아무런 관심이 없습니다.

다른 사람들은 몰라도, 이 세상에서 저 한 사람은 그 방송국에 아무런 관심이 없습니다.

 

'방송', 저의 의지와 상관없이 방송국이 보내는 것입니다.

그래서, 아무리 좋은 프로그램이라도 '기본도 되지 않은 방송국'은 절대 수신하지 않을 것이라는 것은 제 의지입니다.

'방송'의 '공영'이란 '기본 자세'를 잊고, '치부'만을 일삼는 것에 대한 저의 확고한 '의지'로써 그 방송국에 대한 저의 '무관심'은 계속될 것입니다.

비록 '표도 나지 않는 일'이겠지만 말입니다.
