PAPA OF TRIPLE DAUGHTERS (딸딸딸이 아빠)

Mustafa.
He is my 12-year younger bro living in Libya.
His home town is 'Kufra', which is located in a famous oasis deep inside of Sahara desert.
He is a brilliant man with the master degree taken in Germany.
He's one of the devout Islam, who is honest, takes care of his neighbors in troubles and has never been idle in praying five times a day.
He is the husband of his wife whom he loves so much and the father of three little cute daughters as well. But he is 'a man of son-preference' who wants to give births until his son is born.
The second and the last of his three daughters are still infants wearing nappies but the first one, 'Arij',  looking so much like her papa is a happy and active girl who enjoys singing her songs learned at the kindergarten before a lot of people. Whenever I saw 'Arij', I would think of my daughter looking like a stamp of my face. At that time, she was in Tunisia as an exchanged student but I could not have had any chance to meet her but to call her some times because the Libyan government manages the foreigners in a stringent way. With a feeling of loss, I might have thought of my daughter seeing 'Arij'. Now my daughter, however, reminds me of the cute tricks of 'Arij'. It is funny.

 

Mustafa and I have been working on the project through which our country can export products to Libya and build the manufacturing lines in Libya as well.
Even though our contry does not produce even a drip of crude oil, it is the highest in the world to manufacture the 'synthetic resins doors'. on the contrary, Libya has used the 'wood doors' only even though such trees or plants are scarce because Libya is mostly covered with sands.
Therefore, we have been doing our best to complete our 'mission' that we should establish the industrial bases combining 'Korean technologies and Libyan natural resources'.
Both of us call it 'MILK (Made In Libya with Korea) project'.
Mustafa has dreamed of the 'product' manufactured in his country by excellent Korean technologies, and I the 'royalty' from our technologies supplied for Libya.
However, I had to come back to Korea for a while because of a project on going with 'KIST(Korea Institute of Science and Technology)' but I am not able to go back to Libya untill now because of sudden diplomatic dissension between the two countires and other reasons.

 

In the morining of the Saturday that I returned from the Philippines, namely in the evening of the Friday-holiday in Libya, I got the call from Mustafa.
We shared our opinions on 'MILK projects' and finished our call asking about the families each other.
I said to myself again that this 'MILK projects' should come into reality for both countries of Libya and Korea and I gripped my wrist wearing the ring that Mustafa, papa of triple daughters, gave me as his present on the day I went back to Korea.
"Ddalddalddalie papa, your big bro shall come back there soon..."

무스타파.
리비야에 살고 있는 띠동갑 동생이다.
사하라 사막 깊숙한 오아시스 지역으로 유명한 '쿠프라'가 고향이며, 독일에서 석사학위까지 받은 수재이기도하다.
하루 다섯 번의 기도를 절대로 빼먹는 일이 없고 이웃의 어려움을 돌보며 정직하게 살아가는 독실한 회교도이다.
사랑하는 아내와 세 딸의 아빠로써 아들을 볼 때까지 아이를 낳겠다는 '아들 선호주의'이기도 하다.
세 딸 중에 둘째와 세째는 아직 기저귀를 못 벗은 갓난 아기이지만 첫 딸 '아리스'는 아빠 판박이라고 할 만큼 닮았고 유치원에서 배운 노래를 여러 사람 앞에서 즐겨 부르는 명랑하고 활달한 아이다. '아리스'를 보면 나를 판박이 처럼 닮은 딸래미를 생각했다. 그 당시 튀니지아에서 교환학생으로 유학 중이었지만, 외국인 관리가 엄격한 리비야에서 딸래미를 보러 간다는 것은 불가능한 일이어서 가끔 전화를 주고 받았을 뿐이다. 안타까운 마음에 '아리스'를 보면서 딸래미를 생각했는지도 모르겠다. 그러나, 지금은 딸래미를 보면 '아리스'의 재롱이 생각난다. 참 우스운 일이다.

 

무스타파와 나는 우리나라 제품을 리비야에 수출하고, 그 생산 공장을 리비야에 건립하는 사업을 함께 추진했었다.
석유 한 방울도 나지 않는 우리나라에서 '합성수지로 만든 문'을 만드는 기술은 세계 최고인 반면, 세계 최고의 산유국인 리비야는 대부분이 사막으로 덮여있어 나무나 식물이 귀한 나라면서, '나무로 만든 문'만 사용한다.
그래서, '한국의 기술과 리비야의 자원이 결합된 사업기반을 리비야에 구축하자'는 일종의 '사명감'을 갖고 일을 했다.
우리 둘은 이를 '밀크(MILK: Made In Libya with Korea) 사업'이라 한다.
무스타파는 우수한 한국 기술로 자국내에서 생산되는 '제품'을 꿈꾸고, 나는 리비야에 제공되는 우리 기술 '로열티'를 꿈꾸고 있다.
그러나, 당시 내가 진행하던 '한국과학기술연구원(KIST: Korea Institute of Science and Technology)'과의 사업 때문에 잠시 귀국하게 되었고, 곧 이어 한리간 외교분쟁, 그리고 이러저러한 일로 지금까지 리비야로 돌아가지 못하고 있다.

 

필리핀에서 돌아오던 지난 토요일 아침, 그러니까 리비야는 주휴일인 금요일 저녁에 무스타파로 부터 연락이 왔다.
약 2시간여에 걸쳐 '밀크 사업'에 대한 의견을 나누었고 가족들 안부 인사를 하며 연락을 마쳤다.
리비야와 한국 두 나라를 위해서 '밀크 사업'은 꼭 실현돼야 한다고 생각하며, 귀국일에 딸딸이 아빠 무스타파가 준 반지를 다시 꺼내어 끼고는 주먹을 꼭 쥐어 보았다.
